Mounting follows the site: roof mount on metal sheeting, tile or concrete, ground mount where the roof runs out, and carports where parking can double as generation.

Energy charges and demand charges are different fights

Larger commercial tariffs bill two things: the energy you use, and your notified maximum demand, which is your highest half-hour draw in the period.

Solar cuts the energy charge straight away. It only cuts the demand charge if generation reliably lines up with your peak draw, and often it does not. Where demand is a big slice of the bill, the answer is usually solar plus a modest battery sized for peak shaving rather than backup.

The most common mistake in a do-it-yourself business case is averaging the tariff and ignoring the demand component. We model your actual consumption data instead.

Tariffs, tax and finance

  • Tariffs keep climbing. Eskom-direct tariffs rose 8,76% on 1 April 2026 and municipal tariffs 9,01% on 1 July 2026.
  • Section 12B. A business can deduct 100% of the cost of a system under 1 MW in year one. At the 27% company rate that takes roughly a quarter off the effective cost. The 125% allowance under Section 12BA ended on 28 February 2025, and SARS requires a valid Certificate of Compliance. Confirm the treatment with your accountant.

How long does a commercial installation take?

The programme is set in your proposal once the site visit has fixed the scope. Roof condition, switchgear work and grid registration drive the timeline more than the size of the array.

Do you handle the municipal or Eskom registration?

Registration rules for small-scale embedded generation differ by municipality and supply authority. We work through what applies to your supply point as part of the project and hand over with a Certificate of Compliance.

What size system does a business need?

It depends on how much of your consumption falls in daylight. As a rough guide, a business paying R45 000 a month with most of its load during the day usually lands around 60 to 80 kWp. The savings calculator gives an indicative size from your bill in about a minute.
